At a glance
The challenge in four numbers
What you need
Kit list
- A standard paper plate
- A bale or target to pin it to
- A way to stand 50 yards (about 46 m) back
How it's scored
Keeping score
One point for every arrow that hits the plate, zero for a miss. Twenty out of twenty is a perfect score.
At 50 yards a paper plate is about the size of a deer's vital zone. So this is more than a fun challenge: it's genuine practice for when it matters, and it shows how steady your aim really is at distance.
How to set it up
Three steps, then shoot
Pin up the plate.
Fix a standard paper plate to your target and step back to 50 yards.
Shoot twenty arrows.
Shoot at your normal pace. Every arrow that hits the plate is a point.
Log every shot.
Score each arrow as you go, hit or miss. The plate tells the truth, so there are no grey areas.
